/ WHY THIS MATTERS
A 4-year-old can see the difference
Most flashcards sold online are flat vector illustrations licensed from stock libraries. They print fine, the kid recognises Mars-as-a-red-circle and Earth-as-a-blue-circle, and you move on with your life. That's a perfectly working flashcard.
What changes with watercolor is the second look. A kid handed a cheap card recognises the planet, then puts the card down. A kid handed a watercolor card recognises the planet, then turns it sideways, then asks "why is Mars not all red?", then notices the dust. The art does a tiny piece of teaching by itself. That's the difference, and the sample is the only way to verify the claim, photos online are easy to fake.
/ HONEST DISCLOSURE
Our actual workflow, said out loud
We use a hybrid workflow: concept, layout, copy, and final quality pass are all human. Illustrations use a mix of hand-painted watercolor and AI-illustrated frames that I review and edit. We say this on our FAQ page and on our Etsy listings, it would be easy to hide and we choose not to.
The hybrid is why our cards cost $12, not $40, a single-painter studio doing 40 planets from scratch would have to charge for hundreds of hours. The hybrid is also why we can pass the savings to you. Honest hybrid > secretly hidden hybrid.
